so you're in university studying hard for your "Future" and the lecturer says, "Ok alright, this next semester we going to study some new subjects and you going to need to purchase 3 new text books or else you cant participate in class and some assessment of the unit is based on material and exercises found in the text book so you need access to these 3 or so text books next semester. "But cant I just buy the text off of last semester's students of that unit ill be studying?" "Well because they have McGraw Hill 7th edition and you need Mc Graw Hill 8th Edition. See the books are the same except for the exercises you will be graded on. So you need the new one."

Is there many copies of this 8th edition in the library or available online? "No because the library only stocks the original edition and that is always on loan anyway...All 4 copies of it."

In short, university students are being channeled into a new system that supports artificially high prices for text books. Text books have inflated by approximately 200% since 1999 and the system relating to text book purchase employed by the universities is inherently a bad deal for the students. These text book authors must be cruising to office works to buy a new white board and stapler in a porsche.
