Henry Rollins is a very popular story teller. At first I thought he was a god. I'd listen to his speeches and interviews, stage performances and witty comments. He interacts with his audience, he's nice he's your friend, you're his audience. He's made for you because he has the god given talent to connect on a personal level with mass audiences. But get up close one on one, you and him and he's a bit mean really. A bit defensive, possibly a bully, menacing and showing contempt for you. I watched all the videos on you tube and I have concluded that Henry Rollins is not infallible.

Here is a man whose gift is to somehow effortlessly seem so agreeable when he interacts with an audience. Yet I saw some videos where I british guy is interviewing him, and it becomes apparent that Rollins mono y mono can be a bastard. He really is peculiar. He, being an Alpha male, has had no girlfriend since 1988. He can get encounters on demand with willing hot chicks, and he regards them too with contempt. He lives alone, doesn't have friends, only associates with other winners who can further his progress. He wears people down and intimidates and bullies band members and associates if they are less intellectually equipped than he or unable to win if it comes to a fist fight. Rollins despite his left wing anti fascist agenda, seems to me to believing proof that both might is right and a sharp mind doesn't make one a good person. Rollins is proof that only the best get to the top. He will intimidate fellow creators with his superior intellect and physical unassailability. This allows him to hog the limelight and make the band black flag into his personal soap box. Strangely, you and I appear warm and friendly and nice in personal interaction,but put me on the stage and Id lack charisma. Id freeze and probably my voice would go jittery. Where as Rollins on the stage is so nice personable and close to you although he's communicating to thousands of strangers, its as though he is a neighbour having a sunday arvo over the back yard fence chat with you about the super bowl. Well share a taxi with Rollins and be prepared to be oppressed by this aggressive fast paced pushy dictator-like real character. The stark contrast makes it obvious that you are one of the clowns he derides in his intimate on stage chats with his cherished friend the audience. If you are the audience he can connect 100% and remarkably so. But in interpersonal stuff, he's a big ego on legs. I suppose I would be too, if I had such talent.
